ADS131M08EVM: Using the PHI only to power the EVM

Part Number: ADS131M08EVM

Hi,

Can I use the PHI just to power the ADS131M08EVM? I do not want (as of now) to use the EVM software.I would like to integrate it with another MCU.

Section 3.3, 3.4, 4 in the user guide of ADS131M08EVM explains the procedure to use external supply, but requires me to de-solder a resistor and to have a connector soldered, which, unfortunately, I don't have access to.

So could I just connect the USB to my laptop port, but disable the drivers and just power the device alone?

Thanks

Ram.

  • Hi Ram,

If you want to use your own MCU, the PHI card should not be powered and connected to the EVM because the SPI bus of ADC can be forced to low or high by the default signals from the PHI card, so I would suggest to disconnect the PHI card.

You can connect your external AVDD power supply to the test point TP2 on the EVM so you do not need to install J12 connector. For DVDD, you will have to de-solder R67 and connect your DVDD to the test point TP1.
