ADS8860EVM-PDK: compatibility with EVAL-ADXL100X accelerometer

Part Number: ADS8860EVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8860

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Good day. I am posting this inquiry on behalf of the customer.

I have an accelerometer that requires an ADC that can help to digitize the data. I was wondering if the ADS8860EVM-PDK is compatible with my accelerometer and was hoping if you could help to clarify this matter.

Specifications of the Accelerometer:

Model Number: EVAL-ADXL1001

Manufacturer: Analog Devices

ODR: 9.5kHz

resolution: 16 bits

I would appreciate it if you could inform me of the following:

1. Is the ADS8860EVM-PDK compatible with the proposed accelerometer?

2. Are there other components that I will need other than the ADS8860EVM-PDK?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

Thanks for your question! What is the output voltage range of the accelerometer? The input signal range of the ADS8860 is about 0V to 5V, so if the accelerometer output is within this range and 1MSPS sampling is what you're looking for, it should be compatible. Regarding other components, this would be up to you and your application. Referring to the accelerometer user's guide may help.

  • Hi Samiha,

Please see the feedback from our customer.

    "Thank you for your response.
The output voltage range is 0V to 2.5V which should be well within the range of the ADS8860EVM-PDK.
I noticed the input for the ADS8860EVM-PDK is via a SMA connecter. My accelerometer connects via 6 pins as shown in the image below.
VDD: power supply pin (3.3V) for the ADXL1001 accelerometer.
GND: ground pin and should be connected to the system ground.
V_out: analog output signal of the accelerometer.
Could you advise on how I can connect the Accelerometer to the ADS8860EVM-PDK?"

    Thank you for your help.

    Kind regards,

    Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

You could use the input and GND test points on the board to connect the input:

This EVM seems to only have a 5V rail, so you'd need to supply an external 3.3V for the accelerometer VDD rail.

    Best regards,
