ADC084S101: Continuous conversion and sapling rate for each channels

Part Number: ADC084S101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC082S101

Tool/software:

I conisder to use this component for AC signal sampling. I want to make sure befire using it. Therefore, I really appreciate your feecback to find a proper component.

The input AC input signal varying from 0 to 5V and 0 to 250 kHz which I want to sample. The microcontroller supports SPI with 8MHz or max 32 MHz clock frequency.

I wonder whether to achieve continuous sampling of an AC signal from 0 to 250 kHz (each channel) by using the SPI with 8 or 32MHz through ADC084S101? I will use all 4 channels for sampling  at the same time.

Otherwise, would you have any other prodcut suggestion for me?

Thank you in advance

  • Hi Fatih,

What sample rate do you plan to run the device at? Keep in mind that to sample a 250 kHz signal, you must sample at a rate at least twice that. This will make the determination whether or not you should run at 8MHz or 32Mhz.

  • Hi Joel,

Thanks very much for your reply. Yes, I know sampling rate should be two times higher than input frequency. Let's say 500 kHz sapling rate min, but I want to achieve this for each channel. I want to use 4 channels at the same time. In addition, it requires continuous sampling.

Besides, 8MHz or 32Mhz are the clock frequencies of the SPI I can use.

Let me give an example scenario, there is a sine wave of 250 kHz in all 4 channels. I want to sample these 4 channels over 10 miliseconds.

    Thank you in advance

    Kind regards,

    Fatih

  • Hi Fatih,

At a 16 MHz SCLK, you will get up to 250 ksps per channel. This is the max throughput for the device when using 4 channels. If you'd like to sample all 4 channels at Nyquist rate with similar functionality, you can consider using 2 2-channel ADC082S101 8-bit devices. At 16 MHz SCLK, you can get up to 500 ksps per channel.

    Best,
    Joel

  • Hi Joel,

I see what you mean. Thanks very much for your sugesstion. Howwever, I need an ADC with min 4 channels as I plan to use already 2 x ADC with 4 channels.

    I will keep looking for...

    Best wishes,

    Fatih
