TI-JESD204-IP: SYSREF required with DAC38RFxx?

Hi,

I am currently planning to use the DAC38RFxx together with the TI-JESD204-IP. 

I am having a hard time figuring out of SYSREF is required or optional with this DAC.

In case it's optional, I understand that SYSREF is required for deterministic latency through the converter, but how much can the latency vary without it?
