ADS127L11: Synchronization frequency

Part Number: ADS127L11

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am planning an application with two ADS127L11 ADC in a daisy chain configuration and synchronous sampling.

The Appnote SBAA520 describes how the synchronization is done.
However, I can not find any information about how often it is required to synchronize or if I need to resynchronize at all.

According to the datasheet, the sampling is delayed for the filter settling time after each synchronization.
Therefore, It would therefore be desirable if a one-time synchronization was sufficient at the beginning.
Is there a risk that they will go out of sync after several years of operation?

  • Hello FZ,

Under normal operating conditions, the ADC's only need synchronized 1 time during system configuration.  However, the ADCs can become unsynchronized due to external electrical transients, or an interruption in the power supply, or a momentary reduction in the supply voltage due to some kind of brown-out event.  In these circumstances, you would need to re-synchronize the ADCs.

One option is to use synchronized control mode.  Details on how to use this can be found in section 8.4.6.1 of the datasheet.
