ADS1118: RTD vs thermcouple

Hello All,

I was wondering if it is possible to use a RTD instead of a thermocouple with this chip or are there other chips available able to do the same job as the ADS1118 but with a RTD.

Hi Denge,

For RTD measurements, you can consider the ADS1220 (ADS1220 data sheet, product information and support | TI.com) as an alternative. This device features two internal IDACs and external reference option which are ideal for RTD ratiometric measurements.

An excitation source such as the ADS1220 internal IDACs is what would be necessary for RTD measurements which the ADS1118 does not feature.

Thermocouples do not need an external excitation.
