AFE539A4EVM: Using SPI Mode instead of I2C

Part Number: AFE539A4EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE539A4

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am trying to communicate to the device using SPI mode. I at least want to be able to achieve communication via the GUI which is detecting the EVM but then when using the GUI I cannot successfully set any items. Do note, I did set the jumpers to the correct configuration. When I used EVM in I2C protocol, I am able to obtain readbacks which I was able to verify via the GUI and Saleae Logic Analyzer. However, the same cannot be the same when trying to use EVM in SPI protocol.

As per datasheet, I set interface config to value of 1 to enable the readback requests on register 0x26 since unsure how to read the echo's from the previous command via the GUI:

I then attempted to read from the read register but did not obtain anything.

For context, my objective is to understand using SPI mode in the AFE539A4. Thank you for your time and assistance!

  • Hi Simon,

The GUI only supports I2C communication. The low level reads and write are done through I2C communication with the TI Launchpad. Changing the AFE539A4 device settings, or any hardware configurations, will not change how the GUI is communicating through the Launchpad with the AFE.

    Best,

    Katlynne Jones
