AMC131M02: Can AMC131M02 detect the ripple current?

Part Number: AMC131M02

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer wants to know about detecting ripple current of AMC131M02.

Can AMC131M02 detect the specification of ripple voltage and ripple currents below?

1. AC ripple voltage detection (larger than 3.5Vpp) of 20Hz~25KHz frequency range

2-1. Detect 10A_rms of 20Hz~1.5KHz frequency range

2-2. Detect 5A_rms of 4KHz frequency range

2-3. Detect 2A_rms of 10KHz frequency range

2-4. Detect 100~900mA_rms of 25KHz frequency range

Please check this issue. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

The input signal needs to be scaled to the input range of the device.  Our device has a configurable gain with different input ranges shown below:

For voltage sensing applications, you will want to use a low gain setting and scale the voltage down with a voltage divider.

For current sensing applications a higher gain is typically needed (reduces power losses).  You will want to size the shunt resistor based on the max current measured and gain selection.

The input frequency ranges of interest listed above can be measured by the device.  You can select higher OSRs for lower frequency measurements to reduce noise:

    Thanks.

  • Dear Saleh,

    Thank you for your support.

    1. For voltage sensing, I have to use resistor divider to fit the input voltage range +/-1.2V. Am I right?

    2. For voltage sensing, Can I sense 1ll the case from 2-1 to 2-4 at a same time? or Should I sense just one case of condition among 2-1 to 2-4?

    Please check these issues. Thanks.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Chase,

    Correct.

Can I sense 1ll the case from 2-1 to 2-4 at a same time? or Should I sense just one case of condition among 2-1 to 2-4?

This can be done,  but you will want to decide this based on the measurement resolution that you want.

What is the application you are working on?  Is there a dc current also present in the system and what measurement resolution do you need?

    Thanks.
