Tool/software:
Hi Team,
Our customer is considering our AFE for PPG application. We promoted AFE4432 to them. Below are some application queries from customer. Could you please help to advise?
The product is a wearable wristband which is no need for medical certification. For AFE used in PPG, there are some application questions about the design of LEDs and PDs.
- As shown in TI’s reference file sbat014 [ Product Overview : Photoplethysmography (PPG) With Integrated AFE for Optical Biosensing ], it can be seen using green LED for Heart Rate monitoring and using red & infrared(IR) LEDs for SpO2 monitoring.
But in TI’s another reference file sbaa556 [ Application Brief : Measuring Oxygen Saturation (SpO2) on Wearables ], it notes that “ A typical SpO2 system can use a green LED in addition to red and infrared (IR) LEDs.”
Can we use either “green LEDs + PDs” or “red & infrared LEDs + PDs” for Heart Rate and SpO2 measurement ? Strengths and weaknesses?
- AFE IC use multiple external LEDs and PDs to mitigate effects such as ambient light and motion artifacts,  does it ?
For example, AFE4432 support up to 4 LEDs & 3 PDs, Can we reduce the quantity of LEDs or PDs due to the limitation of layout space or product ID?
For Heart Rate measurement : the minimum quantity of LEDs and PDs ?
For Heart Rate & SpO2 measurement : the minimum quantity of LEDs and PDs ?
Please help to confirm above questions. If you can share some relational reference file ,It would be better.
Thanks a lot !
Best regards,
Terry
