TLV2548: TLV2548IPW

Part Number: TLV2548
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS131M08, ADS7038

Tool/software:

Hi everyone,

In my project, TLV2548 combined with Roche coil is used for AC three-phase current acquisition, and there are two questions about this chip, which are as follows:

1、Are the parameters of TLV2548IPW and TLV2548IDW the same except for different package?

2、Does TLV2548 have functions related to calibration of three-phase electricity? Such as phase calibration.

3、3.3V is used as the power supply of the chip. If SCLK is used as the conversion clock source, is the maximum conversion rate 6MHz? At the maximum conversion rate, is the maximum operating current still the nominal value of 1.6mA?

Thanks and regards,

Ivy

  • Hi Ivy,

Typically in the case of three-phase current measurement, we see more simultaneous-sampling ADCs in use over multiplexed ADCs such as this one, as it is important to sample all three phases at the same time, or there will be a phase shift introduced into the measurement.

Generally, since this is an older device, I would recommend the ADS131M08 for an 8-channel, simultaneous-sampling solution. There are also fewer channel variants if that is more suitable.

If you would like to stick with a multiplexed ADC, then the ADS7038 is the newer device recommended to replace the TLV2548.

At what stage are you in your design, and would these suggestions above fit your requirements more closely?

    Regards,
    Joel

  • Hi Joel,

Thank you for your suggestions. The communication interface of ADC I need is McBSP, but the communication interface of ADC chip you recommend is SPI. Besides, I can't replace the chip at this stage. So please answer the questions about TLV2548 in my last email. I am particularly concerned about whether the TLV2548 has phase calibration.

    Thanks and regards,

    Ivy

  • Hi Ivy,

Understood, and thanks for clarifying your requirements.

    1. The TLV2548IPW and TLV2548IDW perform identically. The only difference between the two is the package.

    2. The TLV2548 does not have any dedicated functions related to three-phase electricity.

3a. Given the maximum SCLK frequency of 20MHz, the maximum achievable sampling rate of the device is 200kSPS.

3b. Since the electrical characteristics table is specified up to an SCLK = 15MHz at 3V, I would account for a slightly higher maximum current consumption with SCLK = 20MHz, and the internal reference enabled, around 1.8mA.

    Regards,
    Joel
