ADS7038: AVDD power source requirements

Part Number: ADS7038
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLA2518,

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

What is the power source quality requirements of AVDD input of ADS7038/TLA2518?

Could we use Buck to power this rail?

Do we have ripple requirements or some other requirements to ensure the performance of devices?

Thank you,

Yishan Chen

  • Hi Yishan,

As the ADS7038 uses the voltage at the AVDD pin as its reference voltage, I would recommend supplying as clean of a supply voltage as possible, either with a low noise LDO or a precision voltage reference. There aren't specific power supply quality recommendations as this device was not characterized for them, but the switching noise or ripple can cause degradation to SNR, THD, and sometimes lead to larger drifts that to errors. This hasn't been thoroughly tested, so I don't have specific degradation figures that you can expect, but it is just general advice.

If you are able to size a power supply voltage conditioning circuit that eliminates a lot of the switching noise and ripple, you can potentially get away with it depending on your use case and error margin.

    Regards,
    Joel
