ADS1261: Can this part be configured to run at 5k SPS?

Part Number: ADS1261

Tool/software:

We are working on a new product development that requires four channels of synchronous data aquisition at 5kHz to measure load cells and strain guage extensometers. The marketing group is set on 5kHz, so can the ADS1261 be configured to run at that rate?

Thanks

  • Hello John,

Yes, you can configure ADS1261 to operate at 5khz, but you will need to use an external clock oscillator.  Using the internal oscillator at 7.3728MHz and selecting the 4800sps filter options results in 4.8kHz sample rate.  The 4.8kHz sample rate is an integer number of clock cycles, and scales with the clock frequency.  nCLK=7372800/4800=1536.

If you want exactly 5kHz, then using any of the 4800sps filter options with an external clock set to f-CLK=1536*5000=7.68MHz will give you the data rate you need.  The external clock can be set up to 8MHz for any of the data rates except for the 40ksps, which can go up to 10.75MHz.  The minimum external clock frequency is limited to 1MHz.
