AFE58JD32EVM: Provide a 160-MHz, +13- dBm clock to J56

Part Number: AFE58JD32EVM

Tool/software:

Referring to the document titled "slou487" page 13, section 4.2.2, I am trying to provide a 160-MHz, +13- dBm clock to J56 using an Agilent E8251A signal generator. According to the document, or the TSW14J50, D3 turns off, and D4 should start blinking which is not happening on my end and I am getting errors as shown in the attachments.

  • Hi,

You are using TSW14J50 . This means device output needs to be in JESD mode . But in the configuration (Choose data format) section you had choosen LVDS 12X 12B . This needs to be changed to JESD .

  • Hi Sachin,

Sorry for the confusion in the image. I am using JESD mode for the TSW14j50.

When I change the setup of the AFE58JD32EVM according to the document "slou487 4.2.2 - 5" a window pops up as shown in the attached image where it says, "JESD reference clock from device EVM to TSW14J50 needs to be set at 160M" - this 160M is it the same as mentioned in "slou487 4.2.2 - 1"? If that is the case, I am providing a sinusoidal signal of 160-MHz, +13-dBm at J56 and getting the error as shown in the image below:

Please let me know if I need to put a square wave instead of a sinusoidal wave at J56.

Also, as mentioned in"slou487 4.2.2 - 6" the D4 LED in TSW14J50 is blinking. However, the D3 is not turning off (indicating a sync issue). Are there any specific points I should be connecting in both boards to be synced?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi,

Square or sine should not matter . Did you check the jumper connection for clock ?

The D3 is not turning off - It is indicating JESD link establishment is not done.

Did try the FAQ and Troubleshooting section ?

  • The jumper connection is exactly as it is shown in "slou487 4.2.2 - 1". Do I have to modify the clock in TSW14J50 as well? Currently, the TSW14J50 is at its default configuration.

I went through the FAQ and Troubleshooting section and the discussion there indicates that it is a clock sync issue.

  • Hi, Your help is much appreciated in this regard. Could you please advise on my next move? If you require additional information, please let me know.
