AFE4960: Inquiries Regarding EEG Application

Part Number: AFE4960
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1292,

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am currently developing a wearable device for EEG measurement using the ADS1292 IC.

During the development process, I am considering replacing the ADS1292 with the AFE4960, and I have a few questions regarding this.

1. Can the AFE4960 simultaneously measure a total of 6 EEG channels?
- According to the documentation, it states that up to 8 electrodes can be connected at the same time. Excluding the two electrodes for Ref and RLD, would it be possible to measure the remaining 6 electrodes sequentially using the SW Matrix?
- The four channels designated for BioZ measurement—do they have the same input impedance as the ECG electrodes?

2. When comparing the ADS1292 and the AFE4960, what are the disadvantages of the AFE4960, and what potential issues could arise when measuring EEG? I would also like to understand the key differences between the ADS series and the AFE series.

3. Is it currently difficult to purchase the AFE4960 evaluation board?

I would appreciate your response. Thank you for your time.

  • Hello Charnmin,

    Thank you for your post.

The AFE4960 only has two ADC cores. Sampling 6 input electrodes would require sequentially converting the various electrode pairings by switching the input matrix.

Since the device is covered under NDA, you will need to request access to the full data sheet and EVM at the link below:

There may be better device options to consider for your application. I will send you an email to the address in your E2E profile.
