AFE4960: Inquiries Regarding Multiplexed Sensing

Part Number: AFE4960

Tool/software:

Hello,

About three weeks ago, I submitted an inquiry regarding an EEG application, but I have not yet received a sufficient response. I am therefore reaching out again for clarification.

We are currently considering utilization of AFE4960 to measure multi-channel EEG signals (4 to 6 channels).

According to the datasheet, the IC allows up to 8 electrodes to be connected, and among them, 2 channels can be selected through the SW matrix to acquire data.

My question is:
Would it be possible to assign different channels to each time slot within a single Repeating Acquisition Cycle (RAC), and use the SW matrix to measure multiple channels within one RAC?

If this is possible, how should we handle the switching timing?

In other words, we would like to know whether we can implement time-division multiplexing within a single RAC to effectively acquire multi-channel data simultaneously,
or whether channel switching requires a much longer interval (e.g., several seconds to minutes) between measurements.

Thank you for your support.

  • Hi Charnmin,

The AFE4960 does not support assigning different channels to each time slot within a single RAC.

In order to acquire 6-channel EEG data from a single ADC, you would have to start a new RAC that uses the ECG SW matrix to select different leads. The data would not be simultaneous.

    If you do this:

    • Make sure that you switch between RACs during the "Deep Sleep" window of the acquisition cycle
    • Make sure to wait long enough that the filters have time to settle before capturing data. We recommend waiting at least 6τ, or ~2.6ms, for the data to settle within the 370Hz LPFs.

    Regards,

    Payton
