ADS1014-Q1: Behavior when IC is off but input signal available

Hi TI,

What will happen to the ADC IC when the Vdd is not available (IC off), but the input signal is available? Can it cause the IC to damage?

    Hi Muhammad,

    This would be outside of the device operating conditions. In general you should try to avoid applying voltage to any pin of the ADS1014-Q1 before power is established.  If you can modify your circuit to guarantee this condition, that would be the preferred choice.  Current limiting will help keep the part from self destruction, but if this is going to be a recurring issue, external diodes may be another option for you. 

    I would recommend the use of current limiting resistors. If the current into the device is sufficiently high while unpowered it may lead to a brownout condition, where the behavior of the device can be unpredictable.
