DAC3151: How to test settling time of the DAC3151

Part Number: DAC3151

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Do you have a method for testing settling time? The capacitive load of DAC3151 is very low, just 5pF. The settling time is about 11ns.  It is difficulty to test the settling time using a MSO oscilloscope.

If you have a good method please let know.

Best Regards.

  • Hi Ricardo,

Is the oscope you are using have enough BW? 2GHz or more? Instead of using a probe, use a low loss cable from the output of the DAC and connect straight into the oscope.

Not sure if you are using our EVM brd to test or your own custom board design. Either way, you will need to remove all other components from the DAC output network as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Rob

  • Hi Rob,

    Thanks for your replay.

The BW of the oscope we are using is 2GHz. We designed our own board. There have a 1MΩ//16pF  internal the oscope. Does these parasitic parameter affect the final test?

    Best Regards,

    Ricardo

  • Hi Ricardo,

Yes it will affect the measurements. I would use a low loss BNC or SMA cable and connect straight into the oscope and try not to use the probe. Otherwise, as indicated use some higher BW FET probes. These will have lower capacitance.

    Thanks,

    Rob

  • Hi Rob,

OK. Great Thanks for your reply.
