ADS1278EVM-PDK: Is it possible to use PHI board with another user purpose designed card?

Tool/software:

I see that the eval board has an EEPROM that is read by the PHI controller to initialize the ADS1278.  If the ADS1278EVM-PDK is replaced with a user purpose built board the uses the AD1278-SP or commercial version ADS1278, would the eval kit software and PHI controller work with the user card? 

If the Altium design files were available for the ADS1278EVM-PDK are where available, might we alter the design and fabricate our own cards to work with the existing PHI controller and software?
