ADS1298 Microcontroller

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298, MSP430F2013, MSP430F2274, MSP430F5438, ADS1298-MVK

Hello,

I have started with a project of the University with ADS1298 for a medical aplication, so i want to know  which MSP430 series microcontroller is better to use, i really want to choose a correct device, if there is some comments, suggestions or recommendations, please let me know. In my investigations i found a good option the eZ430-F2013, this kit contain MSP430 development tool including all the hardware and software to evaluate the MSP430F2013. I will apreciate your Advices...

Thanks for answers....

Cami.

  • Hi,

The 2013 is a rather small device. Are you sure the 2 kB flash and the 128 byte RAM will be sufficient? If you are not really sure you should better take something with more memory. This might save you a lot of troubles. Moreover, which communication interfaces do you need?

    Best regards and good luck,
    Edwin Krasser

  • Hi edwin, thanks for your suggestion.

look, the  communication interface is a USB mode, and i need where can i simulate the ADS1298 and the MCU, I have like options the MSP430F2274, MSP430F2013, and MSP430G2211IN14, MSP430G2231IN14, if i can simulate this, i would choose  the correct MCU.

Exist a simulator with this ADS1298 and microcontrollers?

    Thanks....

  • Hi Maria,

Are you Sammi or Carmi?  There is no 'simulator' that we have to offer you for the ADS1298 specifically.  Some of the MSP430 tool sets do have a simulator mode, but nothing would be directly compatible with simulating the ADS1298 SPI interface directly.

The ADS1298 will also be featured on a MAVRK module, which is currently using the MSP430F5438.  I encourage you to review the ADS1298 MAVRK Wiki Page here:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AFE-ADS1298-MVK_MAVRK_Module#Hardware_Features

The MAVRK tool will include a software setup for the MSP430 and the ADS1298.  You might also care to look over their e2e Forum site here:

  • Hi Maria Camila,

Please describe your project more detailed.

What should MCU do in your application? Should it just be a bridge between USB and ADS1298? Or you need some calculations, storing measurements etc?

     In first case I think it's enough simple MSP430F2013 & TIUSB3410.

But if you need some autonomous measurement system and want to build this solution on single chip with MSP430 architecture - you may take a look at  powerful MSP430F5xxx usb-enabled models.

Feel free to contact me directly to my e-mail, which can be found in "Contact" section of my profile.

  • Ilia,

I received a note from my friends in the precision group.  We would be happy to provide you with detailed information on the ADS1298 MVK.  As you have probably already seen, we have a modular system that we are rolling out soon called MAVRK.  For details just go to www.ti.com/mavrk.  On this platform we have the MSP430F5137, the ADS1298, the embedded code in an open source format, and a GUI to see it all working together.  While the ADS1298-MVK is in it's final fab cycle - we can support you in many ways.  If you would like to puruse this, you can address the MAVRK group through www.ti.com/mavrkforum or drop me a note at fullman_ed@ti.com.

    Thanks
