Hello,

we are using this DAC in our product: DAC3283

we would like to know when and how this temperature alarm is generated. as in our case it seems we get this alarm quiet often.

also is the temperature sensor reading from the DAC is channel or real temperature?

Hello Farid,

The temperature sensor is located on the DAC3283 silicon die itself. Therefore, it measures the on-chip temperature.

You can read the temperature data from register 0x06. Please make sure you follow the SCLK requirement during temperature readback.

When does the DAC generate the temperature alarm? is it that the use set a threshold during configuration.

Another important question is: as per the datasheet the maximum operating temperature of this converter is +85C. But if this DAC reads +85C, does that mean we reached the maximum operating temperature and we can't go any higher.

Hello Faridm,

The DAC3283 itself only provide temperature sensor data. It does not generate the temperature sensor alarm. 85C is the free air temperature range recommended. The sensor measures the die temperature. More information, you can find below reference.

Hello Faridm,

For the DAC3283 device, we have only rated the free air operating temperature range of -40C to 85C on the datasheet.

Based on the datasheet, the DAC3283 consumes about 1.4W at the most. Based on PsiJc, you should at most see about a few degrees of difference between top case temperature and junction. (reference: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spra953d/spra953d.pdf)

One thing that you need to be aware is your PCB temperature, which you will need PsiJb to estimate the junction temperature.

Please help cross check these parameters against the temperature sensor reading, and advise back.
