ADS7953: ADS7953 is very hot

Part Number: ADS7953

Tool/software:

Hello, we are using ADS7953 to collect the voltage and current values inside the circuit board. There is an abnormality with one of the circuit boards
1. The default state U1 is very hot, 10W.
2. After removing the resistors R1,R2 and R6, they are still very hot, around 9.5W.
VCC_CLK_PLL_D3V3 2.55V
VCC_CLK_PLL_D1V8 1.808V
VDD_CLK_D3V5 3.54V
VCC_CLK_BUFF_D3V3 2.03V
VCC_D3V5 3.53V
VCC_A2V5 2.52V
VCC_A3V3 3.3V
3. Remove U1, the power consumption is 3W, and the voltage returns to normal.

My question is where the problem lies? How to solve it?

  • Power consumption refers to the power consumption of the circuit board.

  • Hello,

The device should not heat up or draw excessive current under normal operation, and should not dissipate more than 20mW under normal operation. Given this, it would seem that the device is outside of recommended operating condition, or has been damaged through electrical overstress.

Conditions should not exceed any of the absolute maximum ratings. Commonly, this damage can occur when the analog inputs exceed the voltage of the analog supply, or the current going into the input pins is not sufficiently limited.

Once the source of conditions that would violate the absolute maximum ratings is eliminated, the device should be able to be swapped out with a known good device and operate normally, with normal current draw and power dissipation.

    Regards,
    Joel

  • Thank you. This one might be broken. I'm going to try replacing it with a new chip.
