DDS39RF10: Looking for a proper DDS module with just serial or parallel cmos or ttl interface

Part Number: DDS39RF10
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC39RF10, DAC12DL3200

Tool/software:

I'm looking for a proper DDS which has a minimum internal clock rate of 3.5 GSPS upto 6 GSPS  specifically something like AD9914 from ADI. Most of the TI boards have DAC with DDS mode, which needs separate serial or parallel LVDS or JESD. Our requirement only needs DDS. So can you suggest any TI boards which can match the functionality.

  • Hi Rhithik,

You can use the DAC39RF10 or RF12 in DDS mode without any connection to JESD. You can use it stand alone just like other older DDSs from ADI, etc.

Both ADI and TI do not design stand along DDSs any longer btw.

  • Hi Rob,

Thank you for the suggestion to use DAC39RF10/12 in DDS mode. I'd like to follow up with more details regarding my actual requirement and a specific concern on LVDS and synchronization.

I'm currently looking for an alternative to ADI's AD9914, which is a true DDS + Integrated DAC, with an internal clock upto 3.5 GSPS. It also offers simple CMOS/TTL interface, so LVDS interface is not needed.

My goal is to generate a continuous LFM sweep with a slope of 3.33 MHz/us and a maximum internal clock of 3.5 to 6 GSPS range. The key point is, I would like to avoid any high speed LVDS or JESD data-path complexity. What I'm expecting is control via SPI or parallel register writes to configure and have the chip handle analog output generation internally.

I came across TI’s DAC12DL3200, which is a 6.4 GSPS RF DAC with many on-chip NCOs and ramp capability. However, I am unsure of complete removal of parallel LVDS interface, since it may be necessary for clocking or synchronization of internal data engine, eg via clock lanes, SYSREF etc. Just like DAC39RF, can i use DAC12DL with only peripheral interfaces without LVDS?

To make it short, these are my queries:

    1. Similar to how DAC39RF devices can operate in DDS mode without JESD connections, can DAC12DL3200 be used in standalone NCO/ramp mode without requiring full parallel LVDS data interface?

    2. If not, is there any TI devices that supports simplified DDS use case with minimal interface complexity. I would greatly appreciate your recommendation.

Thank you in advance for your time and guidance.

    Regards,

    Rhithik

  • Hi Rhithik,

Our DAC expert will be back in the office on Wednesday. I will make sure he addresses your questions above.

Just to be clear, is there a reason you are looking at the DL3200 vs. the DAC39RF10?

    Just for synchronization purposes?
