ADS1015: Input Range Configuration on ADS1015

Part Number: ADS1015

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am currently evaluating the ADS1015 for a configuration using four single-ended input channels.

According to Table 7-1 in the datasheet, when the LSB size is set to 0.5mV, the FSR is listed as ±1.024V. In this case, when using the ADS1015 in a single-ended configuration, is it correct to assume that the valid input voltage range is 0V to 1.024V? Or is there any possibility that the input range is considered as 0V to 2.048V instead?

Best regards,

Conor

  • Hi Conor,

See the note below, which appears under figure 7-12 in the datasheet.

Essentially, for single-ended, unipolar inputs you will be only be using the positive half of the total input range of the ADC. Using only one half of the available input range effectively removes 1 bit from the maximum ADC resolution. You can give a negative DC shift to the input signal to change 0V to the negative full-scale range of the input, but that requires more components and design considerations.

    Regards,
