DAC43508: Suitable devices recommendation

Part Number: DAC43508

Tool/software:

Hi expert,

Do we have suitable devices to replace ML2036 (Serial input programmable sine wave generator with digital gain control)? Below is the datasheet of ML2306. Thanks.

  • Hi Ryker,

We do not have any DACs that have an integrated sine wave mode that can reach 50kHz. It's possible to use a DAC and send sequential SPI commands to create a sine wave.

For example, a device with a 50MHz SPI clock and 24-bit SPI frame, you can get a 24 point sine wave at ~86kHz.

  • Hi Katlynne,

Could you share more information about how to use a DAC and send sequential SPI commands to create a sine wave, and use which devices? Do you have related reference design or Apps? Thanks.

  • Hi Ryker,

A DAC outputs a voltage based on an input code. You send the code over I2C or SPI. If you repeatedly send a sequence of codes, you'd be able to generate a voltage waveform on the output.

To make a 24-point sine wave you would just split your desired sine wave into 24 equally spaced voltage points and based on the DAC you select you need to calculate what codes will give you those output voltages. Your I2C or SPI controller would send out these codes at a repeated time interval to generate the wave.

  • Hi Katlynne,

Could you help to recommend suitable DAC devices in this socket? Thanks.

  • Hi Ryker,

What are the device requirements? Really any device that support 50MHz SPI will work to achieve the speed I mentioned.
