ADS8688EVM-PDK: EVM claims to be defective

Hello Experts,

Posting on behlaf of my customer:

I purchased a ADS8688EVM-PDK from the TI store and one of the 8 channels is not functioning. I performed my own customer failure analysis and have attached a copy of the customer generated waveforms that demonstrates the channel that failed.

is this valid for return?

    Thank you for brining this to our attention, having a single channel failure is odd.

    It appears to read as if it was disconnected, correct?  Would it be possible to check if the is a hardware issue anywhere in the signal path for the channel? to see if it is a hardware issue or if it could be a device issue. 

    The signal path is not too extensive but just making sure it is not a cold solder on any of the resistors in the path or on at least one of the 2 AIN pins for channel 2? 

    Does the customer have a 2nd EVM or would they be willing to replace the device with a new one?

    Please see response from my customer below:

    "We had the same thought that the root cause is likely caused by one or more cold solder joints.

    Unfortunately we do not have a 2nd EVM to try but tried multiple different cables and software configurations.  We did not want to try resoldering any components as we were concerned it might void the warranty, or possibly make the failure(s) worse. We also wanted to leave the board in its original failed state.  We were also concerned it might be an intermittent failure, like one or more cold solder joints that sometimes worked and varied with temperature or mechanical stress, and could fail again later if we did not identify and repair all of the exact root causes.

    In order to meet an immediate schedule deadline we had to press another different piece of hardware into service to collect our signals for processing and would appreciate arranging the return of this defective unit.

    Do you have enough information to issue a return authorization number for this board or do you need any additional information?"
