DAC80504: SPI Protection

Part Number: DAC80504

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Do the digital SPI inputs have any internal clamping circuitry for transient protection? For example, a spec such as "transient currents below 100mA and xV are clamped".

  • Alex,

Like most devices that are made by TI, There is some minimal protection on on the SPI pins. Generally, we have ESD diodes attached to pins on the device that shunt current to either positive supply or ground. These devices are used as a basic protection for ESD protection. However, transient voltage and surge events may have more charge and current than these ESD devices can protect for.

I would hold to the absolute maximum ratings in the data sheet on page 6. Note that the pin voltage should not go higher than VDD+0.3V (because of the diode conduction) and that the input current shouldn't be higher than ±10mA.
