DAC63204EVM: DAC63204EVM

Part Number: DAC63204EVM

Tool/software:

Hello

I am using a DAC63204EVM Dev kit. I can get a 10KHz sin wave using the included software but when I try to generate the sin wave using an external reference the board sems to lock up. I have removed the resistor that connects VREF to VDD on the Dev board and I am using a +2.5V reference.

Any hints as to what I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Joe,

Can you elaborate on what you mean by lock up?

You can't change certain DAC settings while the waveform generation function is running. Have you tried changing the reference while the sine wave is not running and then restarting?

  • Hi Katlynne

When I say locks up, I mean after a full PWR reset and the external reference being applied before the DEV board is plugged in. Once the Dev board is plugged in and the software started any settings I change on the software have no effect on the dev board. I see no response on the scope that I have connected. The software says it is connected to via the FTDI chip and I can read back the values in the registers, but I can not use the software to generate a sin wave. This is something I have managed to do before without and external reference.

I have also removed R25 on the dev board so that VDD is not being used as a refence.

  • Hi Joe,

Don't apply an external voltage to the reference pin before plugging in the board if you are also using the USB to power the DAC VDD supply. VDD should be applied first, and then any other voltage can be applied.

Can you try connecting the external reference after the EVM is plugged in, then selecting the external reference in the config register, then starting the sine wave generator?

Make sure you have the ground of your external reference also connected to the EVM board.
