DAC1220: how to isolate the DAC1220 SDIO pin?

Part Number: DAC1220
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1540

Tool/software:

e2e,

I'm working on Test/Calibration Test Fixture using the DAC1220E and intend to isolate the DAC1220E. As the DAC1220E has the combined SDIO pin, do you have any specific digital isolators you would recommend for this?  Would the ISO1540 bidirectional I2C isolator work for this?

Thank you,

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

Do you need to operate the pin bidirectionally? If not, then you can just use a standard unidirectional isolator. I don't see anything wrong with the ISO1540.

I've used this configuration before with a unidirectional SPI level translator. You could probably do something similar with an isolator. This was for the SDA pin going into one of our DACs, but the SDIO pin on this device is pretty similar. The pin is push pull when outputting data during a read so you'd just need to make sure the output pin is configured as hi-z during reads.
