AMC0336-Q1: Full scale range for HVDC

Part Number: AMC0336-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC0311D-Q1, LM27761, TLV9061-Q1

Tool/software:

This question would seem to apply to all AMC03x6 and AMC03x6-Q1.

I noticed that the SNSN input can tolerate inputs from AGND - 3V to AVDD + 0.5V.

Does this mean we can use an external voltage reference (say 1.25V) to level shift the input to take advantage of the full scale (linear) range of +/- 1V for DC applications?

Thanks

  • Hi Sean,

Welcome to our e2e forum!  You can use the AMC0336-Q1 for bipolar DC measurements without biasing SNSN, or are you trying to extend the input range to say 0-2V with the external reference?

  • Extend the range. I'd like a ΔΣ modulator version of AMC0311D-Q1. My use case can't afford to lose half of the effective input range.

  • [Update]

I'm considering 2 possibilities here. First, I'm inferring from the AMC0336-Q1 datasheet that it uses a pseudo-differential input. Second, I'm measuring a high negative voltage.

One solution I was considering using LM27761 to generate a -1V reference for SNSN to accommodate -2V to 0V input as the datasheet says SNSN can go to AGND - 3V.

A second solution I was considering was using something like TLV9061-Q1 in inverting configuration and use ADR130 or ADR510 to for a 1V reference for SNSN.

  • Hi Sean,

Thank you for clarifying what it is that you want to do.  All of the datasheet specifications are based on SNSN being tied to AGND - off the top of my head I don't know which (if any) specs might suffer.  Give me a day or two to consult with the designers and get you some feedback on your potential use cases.
