ADS54J20: Selectable Impedance and Coupling

Hi Friends,

I’m new to hardware design and currently working on a project where the customer requires selectable impedance (50 Ω and 75 Ω) as well as selectable AC/DC coupling.

As a starting point, I used oscilloscopes as a reference to understand how these features are typically implemented. Based on my research, I created a block diagram. However, I still have some doubts.

At the initial stage, I planned to use one RF switch for 50 Ω and another for 75 Ω, but I’m not sure how to properly route the BNC input to these switches.

So, my questions are:

  1. Is this design approach correct?

  2. Is it practical and reliable for real-world implementation?

  3. Is there a better way to achieve selectable impedance and coupling without introducing issues at the input?

I’ve attached my block diagram for reference and would really appreciate your guidance.

    Looks fine to me, the other approach would be to use a single 75ohm transformer and back terminate the secondary to reflect a 50ohm impedance. This is just a termination, that is all.

    For routing the BNC connector, I would use another switch to go between the 50ohm and 75ohm switches in your current design above.
