ADS117L18: Replacement of ADS1158

Part Number: ADS117L18
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1158, ADS127L18,

Tool/software:

Hi all,

I am looking for a replacement for ADS1158.

[Requirements]
conversion method: ΔΣ
Resolution: 16bit or more
Number of channels: 10ch or more (if possible, many channels)
Sampling rate: 10kSPS or more for each channel
Interface: SPI
Input voltage range: 0-5 V or more
Category: Equivalent to automotive grade (AEC-Q100) automotive-qualified
Operating temperature range:-40 to 105
Product that complies with functional safety standards is good.

I would like to propose the following products.

Compare product

ADS117L118 has IF as Parallel, but looking at the data sheet, it seems to be compatible with SPI. Is there any problem to select?

Also, is there any other product recommended?

I would appreciate it if you could give me any comments.

Best Regards,

Ryusuke

  • Hello Ryusuke,

Yes, the ADS117L18 (or ADS127L18 24b) can be used with a SPI port to read data. We have example code that shows how to do this using an MSPM0 processor, but the approach can be used with any processor.

In addition to the data port, there is also a configuration port.  This is a separate SPI port that is only used to configure the device.  As an alternative to SPI port configuration, you can also use hardware programming mode where the function of the ADC is configured by connecting pins to ground, IOVDD, or left floating, per Table 7-15 in the datasheet.

We do not have an auto-qual version of this device, but I think this device meets every other requirement.

If it is O.K. with you, we will reach out by email to discuss other product options.
