DAC8830: Questions regarding DAC8830ICDRG4

Part Number: DAC8830

DAC8830ICDRG4 used in P12 project. Voltage reference nominal value (REF) is 5.006V, and it is higher than VDD (5V).

Is there is possible a slight excess of REF relative to VDD is allowed; if yes – what is the maximum allowable excess of REF relative to VDD, and how this excess will affect the accuracy characteristics of the DAC.

  • Hi Shahar,

In general we have a VDD+0.3V maximum for voltages. The primary issue you will see is a higher LSB size for code-to-code outputs, and your gain will be slightly higher. Here's an example of what that could look like, ignoring the other forms of DAC errors. Additionally, you will see the output of the DAC hit VDD (the max output) at a lower code than normal.

    Thanks,
    Erin
