ADS1230 interfacing pic16f877a

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1230

Dear Bob,

In my project , interfacing pic16f877a with ADS1230,i observed that while restart the power supply, to microcontroller and ADC,The counts are fluctuating  1 to 2 grams( if it is in 1 gram division and the load cell used is 6kg).And this fluctuation remains until 2 to 3 minutes. After that, the counts remains constant. After taring ,the value on  display remains in  zero without any weight on the load cell...What is the reason for this..i used separate pcb,s for ADC and microcontroller. The power supply is inbuilt in microcontroller pcb.The only connections to ADC  are 1)5volt to ADC and load cell,  2)Ground, 3)DRDY/DOUT,  4)SCLK,  5)PWDN.

And also i observed that when the power supply restart rapidly, the output shows some error reading..why this happens...

Will this problem solved if  i provided a single pcb for both ADC and microcontroller to reduce noise.

Please Help, i m in confusion,

Thank you

  • Ajith,

There could be a number of reasons.  I guessing that it could either be stability problems or cap charging problems.  It may take some work to track down a 0.02% error.  Also, if you have a rapid supply fluctuation the caps may not fully discharge and you may get a brownout condition where the part doesn't properly reset.

    Best regards,
