ADS1118: ADS1118 Alternative

Part Number: ADS1118
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS112C04, ADS112C14

Hi TI Team,

My current design is having ADS1118 and now I need to modify the hardware for 1.8V logic. Instead of using level translator I am planning to replace ADS1118 with ADS112C04 and pulling SCL and SDA lines to 1.8V instead of 3.3V.

Kindly verify the approach and suggest suitably

Thanks
Uday

  • Hi Uday,

Thank you for your interest in our precision ADCs!

I think this could be done if you are using the minimum value for the digital supply (DVDD) of 2.3V where the minimum VIH would be 0.7 * 2.3V = 1.61V falling within the 1.8V I2C bus. However using a digital supply over 2.6V might result in errors during I2C communication.  What supply were you planning on using?

I would suggest the ADS1115L which has fixed VIH and VIL levels that are not ratiometric to the digital supply. This device was designed to be used with the 1.8V I2C bus. See data sheet screen grab below.

If you need features similar to the ADS112C04 I would suggest the next generation device the ADS112C14  which allows for a lower digital supply (1.65V -3.6V) and can interface with the 1.8V I2C bus.

    Regards,

  • Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

Is there any variation of ADS112C14 that includes temperature sensor?

    Thanks

  • Hi Uday Kumar Urimi,

Andrew is out of the office today, let me respond for him

The ADS112C14 includes a temperature sensor, see the circled block in the image below. Also see section 7.3.10.2 in the datasheet
