DAC80516: Daisy Chain

Hello guys, 

I am currently working on a device with 18 cells. I need a DAC for each cells and I was wondering if you had a DAC of 16 channels that could work on Daisy-chain with a 2 channels DAC ? Or any other way to have 18 channels with Daisy chain.

By the way, the DAC has to be with SPI and 5V voltage.

    The DAC80516 datasheet doesn't specifically say it can daisy chain, but one of our engineers tested it a few months ago and daisy chain worked. You should be able to combine the DAC80516 with the DAC80502 for your 18 cells.

    When reviewing the data, it appears there may be a glitch with the DAC80516 daisy chain. I'm going to test the daisy chain capability today to confirm if it actually works.

    In the meantime you can check the DAC80508 device. It has 8 DAC outputs and the datasheet specifies it supports daisy chain.

    I've retested the DAC80516, it does not support daisy chain. You would have the most luck with the DAC80508.

    We have other devices support 24+ DACs, but they are more complex devices that combine ADCs and are not online. If these sound of interest to you let me know and I can get you in contact with our marketing team.

    First of all thank you for all the informations given, it is really helpfull and really interesting.

    I am indeed interested in you proposal for a 24 (or +) channel devices. But what I am concerned about is that you said that they are more complex but what do you mean by that ?

    Furthermore, do you have datasheets or other things to show me ?

    I have another question about an other device, the ADS8688. 

    It is explained that it is a ADC that supports differential signals on the AIN_xP to AIN_xGND PIN but I have a question.

    For our application, a simulation of a pack battery system (I am a Schaeffler engineer), we have to simulate the cells and we want to read current and voltage on each cells. 

    But the ground on the cell 4 for exemple is the output of the cell 3, so the tension is not 0V. Is it okay to apply on a AIN_xGND PIN a voltage that is not 0V ?

    For the ADC again sorry, but do you have devices that are 5V only powered like the ADS8688 with more inputs ? I found the ADS9324 but it has also an 1.8V voltage input...

    Do you have others ? I need for the ADC exactly 36 inputs (in differential of course).

    You can see a few of our more specialized devices here: Integrated precision ADCs & DACs product selection | TI.com

    These are high density devices with multiple DAC outputs and ADC inputs. The DAC team doesn't have a lot of differential input ADC devices, unfortunately. I believe a few of the devices have some differential channels, but these devices are more suited for general voltage monitoring. 

    If you need a high-density differential ADC device, you'd have better luck talking with the PADC team. Our high-density DACs (example, AMC7924 has 24 DAC outputs) will be much larger and a lower resolution compared to our general DACs (DAC80508, etc), but have additional features that could be helpful (single-ended ADCs and GPIO pins)
