AMC7834EVM: AMC7834EVM: AVSS Alarm Triggered During Board Initialization

Part Number: AMC7834EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC7834,

I am using the AMC7834 EVM powered with a 24 V supply. I connected the SDM-USB-DIG interface and launched the GUI for evaluation.

Immediately after power-up and GUI connection, I observed that the AVSS alarm was tripped (Triggered) . After reading and clearing the alarm register, the fault did not reoccur during normal operation.

My questions are:

  1. Is this AVSS alarm at startup expected behavior on the AMC7834EVM, or could it indicate an issue specific to the evaluation board I am using?

  2. Could this be related to the power-up sequencing of AVSS?

  3. Are there any recommended configuration steps or sequencing guidelines to prevent this startup alarm?

The board otherwise appears to function normally after clearing the AVSS Alarm

  • Hi Goutham,

This is most likely due to slight mis-timing during the EVM power startup. The EVM has multiple voltage generators, so mis-timing is not unexpected.

There's no required power-on timing sequence, but ensuring the supplies start up together will help prevent this alarm from triggering. Performing a reset command after startup or reading the status registers will clear the alarm and allow the device to operate normally.

    Thanks,
    Erin
