ADS1299EEGFE-PDK: Software unresponsive

Part Number: ADS1299EEGFE-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1299

Hi Experts,

I am posting on customer behalf.

Our EVM has been completely unresponsive for the past 2 hours on Windows 10, and we are unable to proceed with our evaluation. Please find the screenshots attached for your reference, which illustrate the current state of the system.

A summary of the situation:

- Device: ADS1299 EVM Dev Kit
- OS: Windows 10
- Issue: EVM has been unresponsive for approximately 2 hours
- Attachments: Screenshots showing the unresponsive state

We would also like to highlight that this is our first kit, so we are uncertain whether this is a configuration issue, a driver/software problem, or a hardware fault.

Any guidance on standard troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, we would like to enquire whether TI currently offers any newer EVM kits or updated versions of the ADS1299 EVM that are fully compatible with Windows 11.

As we plan to scale our evaluation setup, ensuring OS compatibility with current and future systems is an important consideration for us.

Thanks and regards,
Marvin
  • Hi Marvin,

Please ask the customer to check how the EVM has enumerated in Device Manager. They may need to update the device drivers manually.

We have not updated the EVM SW since its initial release; however, many customers and I are able to use the GUI without issues on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Dear Ryan

Thanks a lot for your message.

Please find the details of the debugging process we have performed, Still issue isn't resolved yet.

    1. Uninstalled & re-installed all the drivers & kit setup SW - Still observe the GUI to hang & become non-responsive with "e" being displayed on its 7 segment display. However the win10 device manager could correctly enumerate it as NI VISA MMB0 device
    2. Connecting only the carrier board with the PC (ADS1299 stack up board removed) the same GUI behaviour is observed
    3. If only the GUI runs then there is no hang, which implies that there is issue in the interaction between the kit with the PC.

  • Hi As a follow-up would like to provide these additional screenshot as well We tried without the HW, then the GUI shows 2 pop ups (screenshots attached) of Firmware load issue warning & shuts down shortly thereafter

  • The Conditions of the GUI regiser map is never updated even if we input the values

  • We are also observing that U21 Part is getting warm. Any suggestions. Is this related to GUI interface ?

  • Hello Dr. Jallapally,

What is powering the MMB0? Have you connected a DC wall adapter that meets the requirements in section 9.4 of the User Guide? Typical wall supply specs are 6V and at least 500mA output.

Without connecting EVM daughterboard to the MMB0, can you test the following?

    1. Confirm J12 on the MMB0 is installed. Probe either side and confirm that you measure 5V at the output of U5
    2. Check the U16 outputs (1.6V at C40 and 3.3V at C41) and let us know the result.

Then, disconnect power, and plug the two boards back together with the EVM in the default jumper configuration according to section 2.5. Then, re-apply power to the MMB0 and measure the following:

    1. AVDD
    2. AVSS
    3. DVDD

Lastly, please share a high-res photo of your EVM kit, showing their orientation and jumper settings.

    Regards,

    Ryan
