We are developint an AED (battery powered). The device includes the TI ADS1292R. Operations are working and our product passes its POR Self-Test consistently. In the AED we perform a WEEKLY Self-Test which in a few devices fails the check for ECG Data Acquisition. In particular, it fails on the ECG Test signal.  The failure seems to be intermittent, but occurs on only a few devices. We have managed to capture the 1292 test signal during a failure and are trying to determine a cause for the failure because the collected signal is defective.

I attempted to upload an image of the plot and Excel Spreadsheet with the plot, but both failed. Here is a VERY rough text approximation of the plot:

It shows the critical point we are concerned about.  We do not think it is a software issue on our side, since we have sent both generated sine wave and simulated ECG rhythms to the AED and collected correct data. But we are puzzled how any possible noise could disrupt the internal ASD1292R test signal.

    Thanks Ryan. Upload still seems to be unavailable. I did manage to paste a copy of sample data below. Meanwhile we are investigating a possible timing issue with the SPI connection.

    Thanks, Ed. For readability, I edited your post and pasted the data into a "Code" text file.

    I looked at the plotted waveform and see the issue you observed. It does seem like a possible timing issue. However, instead of simply missing samples, it seems the output data buffer is stuck at zero for some time. We would not expect the test signal amplitude to idle at zero. If you are able to connect a logic analyzer, I would confirm two things:

    1. All 48 bits (STATUS + CH1 + CH2) are completely read out between /DRDY falling edges.
    2. When the data shows all 0x00, check that the STATUS word is still reading correctly. The leading four bits should always read 0xC.

    We have not seen the string of zeroes again but did find a timing issue with detecting the frequency. That has been corrected, and we ae pleased with the results.

    Looks to be stable. Have not seen the bad data issue, and marking it as a fluke event, unlikely in the field.
