ADS1298 arbitrary pins

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

Hello TI,

I have purchased ADS1298 ECG FE rev A few months ago and it has been working great with ECG patient tests. But now I want to use it for accelerometer for motion artifact detection. For filtering, ECG signal and accelerometer data needs to be recorded at the same time and cannot have a large delay. My solution is to sacrifice 2 channels of ECG and use them to input 2 axies of the accelerometer. The signal that the accelerometer output is single ended (0~1.6 volts) per channel . How can I acquire that signal through this board? I am willing to sacrifice V1 and V2  to input accelerometer outputs.

  • HI Paul,

We cannot really comment on usage of the ADS1298ECG-FE with patient tests. We recommend using a patient simulator for testing with the board since protection circuitry was not included on the board.

Access to V1 and V2 can be achieved through jumpers JP30 and JP34. Remove the jumpers and you will have access directly to the input pins of the ADC itself. Take a look at the schematic on page 68 of the data sheet for more info.

  • Please just tell me one thing, if I feed 1.6 volts into one of the channels (V1), will I be able to see the data in the TI software that the board came with without making any changes to the registers or jumpers?

  • Hi Paul,

The ADS1298 is still simply a data converter with ECG options. As long as the device is configured to have the inputs as 'normal electrodes,' you should be able to feed 1.6V to the input of the ADC and read it back without a problem. Use the schematic in the ADS1298ECG-FE User's Guide to be sure exactly which jumper header to input the signal at.

    Regards,

    Tony

  • Thank you Tony,

I will try this again ASAP. You have saved me lots of testing time. Thank you for quick responses.
