ADS1120EVM: Ads1120 wiring

This is for a strain gage load cell with a full wheatstone bridge configuration

Hi Drake,

JP1 and JP2 on your EVM board are open, you should install both of them to provide an excitation voltage for your bridge. The internal reference is selected by default; you have to set VREF[1:0] bits to 01b in the Configuration Register 2 to select the external REFP0/N0 that will your excitation voltage (AVDD) if you install JP1 and JP2. IN+ and IN- on J1 are actually connected to AIN1 and AIN2 of the ADC on the EVM, so you have to switch the measurement input channel from the default AIN0 and AIN1 to AIN1 and AIN2 by setting MUX[3:0] bits to 0011b in the Configuration Register 0. You also need to choose the appropriate Gain in the Configuration register 0. All these configurations can be done in the EVM GUI software. You can see the details in the ADS1x20EVM user guide and ADS1120 datasheet.

We have released a new generation ADS122S14 that has more input channels and a better performance, ADS112S14 is 16-bit version. I2C version ADS122C14 is available too.

I just wanted to double check and make sure this is the correct wiring before I plug it in. 

Hi Drake,

Your connected both pins of JP1 to EXC+ and EXC- pin of J6 with wires, this is incorrect. Below is the schematic from the ADS1x20EVM user guide, you only need to install JP1 and JP2 jumper on your EVM board, no extra wire is needed.

Hi Drake,

You are using the red wire to connect the pin2 (AVDD) of JP1 to pin 1 JP2 that is actually is GND, this connection will damage the devices on the EVM. As I suggested above, you only need to install JP1 and JP2 jumper on your EVM board, no extra wire is needed.
