DAC38J84: DAC38J84 configuration generation using APP

Part Number: DAC38J84

Hi

I'm using the DAC3XJX GUI to generation configuration files. The usage is like below: image.png

I'm using LMFS = 4421

Question is, why is 0x51 always set as DC and 0x54 is FC while the defaults are FF, is there any reason to disable the sync request of link config error etc on these 2 links?

  • Hello,

The settings above are based on the JESD204B standard on definition of SYNC request and Error Handling

0x51 = sync request: we need the minimum of these registers to ensure basic hand shaking. At the same time, we do not want to overwhelm the alarm to repetitively false trigger the request to re-initialize the handshaking signal (i.e. 8b/10b errors. We can monitor 8B/10B errors in general to decide the link quality as a separate parameter). We also removed the link configuration error as the specific ILA identifier may not be present on the JESD204 transmitter to ensure successful link. Therefore, we removed the ILA identifier requirement.

If you need further clarifications on the ILA identifier, please let me know. You can understand it as a handshaking key from the transmitter to the receiver for the receiver to understand what the transmitter is doing. The keys on both transmitter and receiver has to match.

0x52 = error handling. We have the same reasoning on the 8b/10b error monitoring. You can feel free to add the 8b/10b errors into the parameter to monitor this.

  • Hi, thanks for the reply!

I think i confused the links and lanes, so wondering why it was different between 0x51 0x54 0x57 and 0x5A.

If i read 00 from register 0x49 that means I'm using only 1 link with 4 lanes. So only 0x51 matters and i should ignore what is being configured to 0x54 0x57 and 0x5A, is this understanding correct?

    Thanks.

  • Hello

If i read 00 from register 0x49 that means I'm using only 1 link with 4 lanes.

This means all of the JESD204 lanes are defined as Link 0 (0 index). In JESD204 standard, you can aggregate and define certain number of lanes into a pre-defined "LINK". This is lane aggregation.

So only 0x51 matters and i should ignore what is being configured to 0x54 0x57 and 0x5A, is this understanding correct?

Yes, then only 0x51 matters for the SYNC_REQUEST. You also need to consider 0x52 for the Error_ENA condition.
