Hi,
Why D6, D7, D8 considered bidirectional rather than unidirectional for positive type of input?

Anurag

Hi,

Anurag, we used those as the USB cable is exposed to "outside world" and felt that we wanted to ensure that EFT transients and other transients could be suppressed. In addition, we generally over-design our support circuits around our key device. In this case, we did not want to risk supporting customers on USB issues for our evaluation hardware that are not really found in the actual target application.
Thanks,
Paul
Hi, but it seems that for positive type input only, unidirectional clamping is good than bidirectional.
Hi Anurag,
This is the recommended setup we were given from the FTDI controller's datasheet. You are free to replace these diodes (or remove them) if you desire.
Thanks,
Erin
