AFE159RP8: Information, Data Sheets, Availability

Part Number: AFE159RP8
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE159RP4, ADS1298, , ADS1298R, ADS1294R, AFE159RP3, ADS1292

Hello,

I've been in contact with you regarding the CI AFE159RP4 for some time now, and I've been told that the AFE159RP8, the successor to the ADS1298, will be available around the end of 2025.

I'm currently re-engineering a product that uses the ADS1298, but I'm interested in migrating to the AFE159RP8 if it becomes available.

Thank you very much for any information you can provide.

Best regards

  • Hi Leandro,

    Thank you for your post.

I saw that your initial request was denied in March since we did not receive a reply to our questionnaire, but I see the details now in the customer support ticket you raised. I have granted you access to the AFE159RP8 Secure Resources folder. Thanks for your interest in our device and let us know how else we can support your evaluation.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan!

Thank you so much for your response!

    I've accessed the shared resources.

How should I proceed if I purchase an EVM or integrated circuits for prototyping?

    Thanks again for your response!

    Best regards

  • I would like to add a question about AFE159RP8, too: Does it have the same limitation as ADS1298R, allowing only either respiration or ECG for one of the 8 channels? Or does the new AFE159RP8 have the ability to measure 8 channels of ECG and respiration simultaneously? When will the full data sheet be publicly available? Best regards

  • Hi Eric,

Sorry for missing your follow up question. The AFE159RP8 has an independent respiration channel, so 8 channels of ECG can still be measured simultaneously. The full data sheet is available now under the AFE159RP8-DESIGN Secure Resources folder on ti.com. You can request access here:

  • Hi Ryan, thank you for the update.

What is the target audience for design secure resources, who qualifies to get access under which conditions?

https://www.ti.com/product/AFE159RP8?HQS#order-quality (QFN package) lists prices 2-3 USD above those for ADS1298R, but limited availability.

ADS1298R is only available as BGA. ADS1298 without respiration is available as TQFP and BGA, at prices 9-13 USD below those for AFE159RP8.

Somehow https://www.ti.com/product/de-de/ADS1298R advertises the AFE159RP4 as alternative rather than the AFE159RP8.

On the other hand, https://www.ti.com/product/ADS1294R uses a block diagram matching ADS1298R rather than ADS1294R.

I assume the AFE159RP4 has 4 ECG channels plus one independent respiration channel, so all AFE159RPx have 1 extra ECG channel compared to AFE129xR?

    Regards, Eric

  • Hi Eric,

We are granting access to nearly all customers who present a legitimate business opportunity and are willing to share details about their end application. The primary motivation for keeping the files under NDA is to protect some truly differentiating IP from leaking to competitors.

Thanks for pointing out the AFE159RP4 alternative listed on ADS1298R's product page - that reference was probably made prior to releasing the AFE159RP8. We will review and update accordingly.

Yes - all AFE159RPx devices will support one more ECG channel than their ADS129xR predecessors because the respiration channel is now completely independent.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

Thank you for your explanations. I have used your link for AFE159RP8 and derived a link for AFE159RP4 to request information for both.

Surprisingly, after logging in, the only additional question was whether we are a military organization - we would probably not reject possible military customers buying our ECG, but we are a medical company focused on patient monitoring devices and modules, so no, we are not a military organization.

I would also be very interested in AFE159RP3: It has a lot of functionality in a small housing at a fair price. According to your AFE159RP3 website, requesting information would use the AFE159RP4 request form?

Looking forward to read more about your AFE159 chip family!

    Regards, Eric

PS: For tiny, low cost ECG, we are quite happy with ADS1292, but the AFE159RP8 is a feature-rich upgrade for ADS1298 fans and AFE159RP3 hits a sweet spot in between.

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, both AFE159RP3 and RP4 share the same Secure Resources folder and datasheet.

    Regards,

    Ryan
