Part Number: ADC12J4000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12J4000
Hi,
I have 2 sets of ADC12J4000EVM attached to TSW14J56 evaluation boards for data capture. Both had hardware configurations made to use external clocking of the DEVCLK and LMKCLK.
When I follow all the instructions in the ADC12J4000EVM guide in the correct order (checked many times) I consistently capture successfully using one of the sets. However on the other pair, the capture for several days was relatively inconsistent (perhaps 1 in 6 setups was successful), and as of yesterday failed capturing at all after many attempts, with the relatively common Read DDR to Timed Error appearing. I believe I have tried most of the suggested fixes I have seen on forums with similar questions (things like CPU reset, power-cycling). For both I have followed exactly the same setup procedure in order; one succeeds and the other fails consistently.
Clock input for DEVCLK is about 4dBm and LMKCLK about 0dBm. I understand DEVCLK is at the border of the stated required power (11dBm ideal with at least 4dBm stated as required) and LMKCLK power is not given (presumedly similar power is required). However, it appears the LED's were functioning consistently across both boards which the error raises to check; after ADC12J4000EVM GUI setup and Firmware loading on the TSW14J56 the D3 LED in both cases would come on suggesting successful link between ADC and TSW, and then D4 LED would start flashing after clicking capture (yet the error would still raise on the non-working setup.) My understanding is that the D4 LED blinking suggests TSW14J56 is receiving DEVCLK successfully, but I am not sure if this rules out all clock issues; is this the case?
Please also let me know if you have experience with the clock power figures and if they are generally strict or whether even lower power would likely work (even if inconsistently.)
Hence, my current understanding is that my problems are likely to be due to some hardware issue (maybe an FMC connector has degraded or some capacitor has caused issues) or a clock issue (even though D4 suggests receiving it successfully, and my working pair works with this clock setup). It seems unlikely power supply is an issue as both boards seem to power on and operate fine. I also don't have issues with the USB connections.
I am loading in the ADC12J4000_BYPASS firmware with 4GHz sampling rate.
Please let me know if you have any idea what the issue most likely could be and what further tests I should conduct. Also let me know if you would like me to clarify anything else. Thanks for your help.
