AFE58JD28: AFE ENOB tests

Part Number: AFE58JD28
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE58JD48,

Hi All,

I'm looking for ENOB and SINAD test results for the AFE58JD28 and AFE58JD48.

I'm trying to decide between these two devices.

Does TI have any test results for them?

  • Hi Yoav,

Are you asking about the ADC ENOB and SINAD or combine VCA and ADC performance? Also, can you please specify your use case for comparison? ADC can be programmed in 14-bit, 12-bit mode for AFE58JD28 and 16-bit, 14-bit for AFE58JD48. What is the input signal frequency for which comparison is required? In case entire VCA+ADC performance is being referred then additionally what is the sampling rate?

  • Hello Sheetal,

I am referring to the entire chain, from the LNA to the ADC.

I am interested in choosing between the two, and performance is important to me because the JD48 is significantly more expensive; therefore, I need to determine whether the additional cost is justified.

Input signal frequencies: 100kHz to 700kHz.

    Sampling rate: 5MHz to 20MHz.
  • Hi Yoav,

Please see the SNR, SINAD and ENOB numbers between AFE58JD28 and AFE58JD48 for 40MHz sampling, 200kHz input signal and signal chain gain of 12dB below. Signal is adjusted at the input such that ADC output is at -1dBFS in both the devices.

      AFE58JD28 AFE58JD48
    SNR 70dB 72dB
    SINAD 53.2dB 55dB
    ENOB 8.55 8.826
  • Hi Sheetal,

So, in which cases would the 16-bit ADC of the JD48 be useful?

In my case, which device do you think would be a better fit, the JD28 or the JD48?

  • Hi Yoav,

16-bit ADC of JD48 is useful for high speed application. Since your used frequency is only in the range of 100k-700kHz range, both the JD28 and JD48 will have similar performance.
