ADC32RF54: Temperature Mesuaremnt

Hello Experts,

I am currently designing a system using the ADC32RF54, and I understand that the device does not include an internal temperature sensor.

What would be the recommended method to estimate or monitor the internal junction temperature (Tj) with reasonable accuracy?

I am considering using a TMP102 placed close to the ADC32RF54 pad to estimate its temperature. However, I am concerned that the measured temperature may differ significantly from the actual junction temperature.

I also considered estimating the junction temperature based on the power-rail currents, but this would require monitoring multiple power rails, and I would prefer to avoid adding several current-monitoring ICs.

If I use a TMP102 to monitor the temperature near the ADC32RF54 package, what temperature margin would you recommend applying to ensure that the ADC32RF54 junction temperature remains safely below its maximum rating?

  • You can use the junction to case, junction to board, junction to ambient thermal resistances in the datasheet page 6 to estimate based on your use-case power consumption to estimate.

    Thank you for the suggestion. Actually, this is how we plan to use from the PAD temperurature, but it is not accurate enough. The PAD temperature may be 90C, the calculate Tj may be 110C, but the real Tj temperature may be over 125C, depending on the accuracy. Does TI have any recommend margin?
