ADS131M02: Clock Input Sources

Part Number: ADS131M02

We are currently using the ADS131M02QPWRQ1 for BMS voltage and current monitoring. We observed that the ADS131M02Q1 emulation/evaluation board uses the SIT8924BA-22-33E-8.192000G oscillator as the reference clock for the ADC.Since this oscillator is relatively high in cost, could you please suggest a lower-cost alternative that can be used with the ADS131M02QPWRQ1 while maintaining the required clock accuracy and ADC performance?

Additionally, please suggest any cost-effective ADCs with integrated or external isolation, suitable for BMS voltage and current monitoring applications. Please provide the recommended part numbers and key specifications for comparison.Best

  • Hi Aparna Bande,

    Welcome to TI E2E forum.

For our full characterization, we utilized the ABLS-8.192MHZ-K4T crystal, which demonstrated excellent compatibility with the ADS131M0x ADC. We also performed baseline testing using the ADS131M08MET-EVM (the metrology evaluation module designed with TI's CDC6CE008192ADLE oscillator).

Please note that if a different crystal is implemented, it is essential to characterize your specific system across the full range of supply voltages and temperatures to ensure reliable startup under all operating conditions.

The ADS131B02-Q1 is primarily designed for automotive Battery Management Systems (BMS), offering an internal oscillator, high input impedance, and enhanced performance.

If your application requires an isolated ADC, the AMC131M02 a suitable alternative ADC, which features an integrated isolated DC/DC converter in addition to digital isolation.
