How to Order ADC12D1800RB/NOPB ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12D1800, ADC12D1800RF

Clicking on the "Order Online" button on the ADC12D1800 Reference Board webpage simply takes you to a National webpage; clicking on that "Buy Now" button takes you to a Digi-Key web page... that says "Product Not Found"

Is there some secret portal where these are actually for sale?

  • Hello..anyone out there?........Hello............hello.....................hello.....................................

    hello.........................................................hello.........................................................................hello.......................................................................................................................................

  • Hi Neil,

I apologize for the difficulties in ordering a Reference Board.  We have experienced a few hiccups, as the National website has recently undergone some major components of changing over to the TI website, and this has caused the issue with ordering boards.

Our major distributors are still currently able to sell this boards.  You can call the distributor, e.g. Arrow, and provide the part number for the board.  The distributor would then validate that the part is real and submit a quote request to determine pricing.

Please try this route - and let me know if you are not able to successfully order a board and I will help get one through.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Thank you, Marjorie. I already know the price of the evaluation board-- it is $995 according to your web page: http://www.ti.com/tool/adc12d1800rb

The question is who sells it--- the reference to Digi-Key leads nowhere so is Arrow the correct distributor or are there other choices?

Best of luck with the TI takeover......................

  • Hi Neil,

$995 is the correct price.  The major distributors are Arrow and Avnet.  For example, I found the board at Avnet:

    http://avnetexpress.avnet.com/store/em/EMController?langId=-1&storeId=500201&catalogId=500201&term=adc12d1800rfrb&searchType=&advAction=&N=0&Ne=100000&action=products

Thank you for the well wishes!

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Marjorie,

Sorry to step into this thread, but I am working with Neil on this project, and have a related follow-up.

We are having a dickens of a time ordering this board.  If I look up the board via the TI site, and follow the links all the way through to "Purchase," it ends at the DigiKey website with a failure to find the product.  If we work with Avnet as you suggest above, the sales folks get in the loop, contact TI, then insist that this is an obsolete product.  They have gone so far as to direct us to Rochester Electronics to find older, obsolete TI products.  The same result has occurred with a number of online vendors purporting to offer this product.

Could you kindly direct Neil and I through a solid sales resource that can enable us to purchase the evaluation board?

Thank you so much, and best regards,

    --Ken

  • Hi Ken,

Sorry again for the difficulties; I just had a chat with Neil and have at least resolved your order.  Your board should arrive to him on Monday.

I am currently working with the TI distribution managers for Avnet, Arrow, and Digikey to make sure that these boards are orderable;  I hope to close on the issue by next week.  Avnet did not have our board info loaded into their system, which is why the board appeared to be obsolete when you tried to order it. After things are sorted out with the distributors, I will respond again to this post with some links to order boards.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Marjorie,

Wow!  That is simply fantastic!  Thank you so much for stepping in and resolving the situation so amicably and so quickly.  I'll keep an eye out for your later postings with links to the distributors.

Again, thank you for going above and beyond; it is greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    --Ken

  • Hi Ken,

You are very welcome!  Let me know if you have any further questions, as your development with the product continues.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Marjorie;

The converter board arrived this morning. Many thanks for your sincere efforts on our behalf.

  • Marjorie,

    A follow-up, with questions...

The board arrived with WaveVision v 5.0.5.284; this is a non-starter under Windows 7.  I did find and download v 5.0.6.465 (the latest?) and was able to communicate with and exercise the board.  So far, so good; however...

The intent is to use the board with a custom Windows application.  To that end, I was previously provided a zip file including the Programmers Guide to the WV5 DLL.  Unfortunately, the source files are based upon the old DLL, which does not use the Win7-compatible USB drivers.  I went ahead and used explicit DLL linking to access the new version, but only met with partial success.  I can communicate with the DLL, issuing commands to: set the debug output file (WvDebugModuleSetOutputFilename), initialize the module (WvDebugModuleModifyAll), and enumerate the attached board (WvBoardEnum).  It was on this last item I hit a snag.  The function is returning FALSE, indicating it could not enumerate the board.  A check of the debug output shows: "GEN: Exception caught" and "BOARD_STATE: Internal error. user handle not found."  I'm guessing that something has changed in either the startup sequence or the function parameters from the older version that I have, but I have no real way to go much further.

Is there a newer zip file with the requisite .h and .lib file to support the new DLL, and if applicable an updated version of the Programmer's Guide?

Any help you can provide to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much, and best regards,

    --Ken

  • Dear Marjorie,

sorry for stepping into this thread.

I'm working for a company based in northern Italy active in the field of RF/MW systems. We would like to buy the same eval board of this thread,  the ADC12D1800RB and we are experiencing the same problem reported here: no way to order this board from usual components reseller (Digikey, AvNet, Arrow, Farnell).

Is there a chance to solve this issue?

    Thank you very much,

     Alessio Cacciatori

  • Marjorie,

A little bit more info...  In an effort to get moving forward, I installed Windows XP as a virtual machine under Windows 7, then installed the older version of WaveVision 5.  You have to hold your tongue just right, but you can get WV5 to see the board and acquire waveforms.  However, when I now test my custom Windows C++ application, I get essentially the same error, i.e. "user handle not found," although some of the debug messages are a bit different, reflecting the use of the older DLL.

One other bothersome observation...  The help file provided with the WV5 DLL Programmer's Guide indicates that the WvBoardEnum function allocates memory for the board name strings, returning a pointer via the location provided in the second argument.  The sample Python code included with the DLL kit, though, preallocates the memory for the board name strings.  I've tried it both ways just in case, but with no success; I only point it out as an inconsistency in the documentation versus the sample code.

I am now good and stuck, and eagerly await your input.  By the way, I noticed there is another thread open in the forum (sorry, I don't have the link) with a user encountering what seems to be the same difficulty with the same DLL tools, posted in mid-April.  Might be able to kill two birds with one stone if we get this figured out.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi Alessio,

No problem - you are welcome to join the discussion!

The board is available from Avnet, but we are still working to make it available on Digikey and Arrow.  You will have to request a quote since the price is not published.  You can do this by going to the link below and selecting 'Request Quote'.  Last week, I e-chatted with an Avnet representative to see if I could order the board and she told me to request a quote.  One thing to note:  there are two similar products, the ADC12D1800 and the ADC12D1800RF and reference boards for both products are available on Avnet:

    ADC12D1800 Reference Board:

    http://avnetexpress.avnet.com/store/em/EMController?langId=-1&storeId=500201&catalogId=500201&term=adc12d1800rb&N=0&Ne=100000&action=products

    ADC12D1800RF Reference Board:

    http://avnetexpress.avnet.com/store/em/EMController?langId=-1&storeId=500201&catalogId=500201&term=adc12d1800rfrb&N=0&Ne=100000&action=products

Let me know if you have further questions - and whether you are able to order the board.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Marjorie,

Solved it!  It turns out the WV5 DLL has a strong dependency on the 'hardware' folder found in the WV5 program directory.  By making a copy of said folder in the root of my custom application, i was able to enumerate the boards without error.

I'll post this in the other thread as well, and hopefully it will solve that individual's difficulty as well.

I'm sure there will be more questions as I go, but for now I'm good.

    Thanks again,

    --Ken

  • Hi Ken,

Fantastic!  I'm glad you were able to solve this problem.  From our side, we will help you as much as we can with the product, but most of the folks on the team are skilled in analog hardware and software / firmware issues are not our forte.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Dear Marjorie,

thank you for your kind reply. I submitted an RFQ as you suggested. I'll keep you updated as soon as I have some feedback,

    Best Regards,

     Alessio

  • Dear Marjorie,

sorry for the question but, to date, I don't have received any answer from AvnetExpress. Besides then, on their webpage, the following statement makes me worried: "Not available in Europe" under both price and availability columns. I'm so sorry to bother you but, to be honest, we really need to know if we can count on that board or if we have to search for other solutions.

I guess it is not possible to buy directly from TI, is that correct?

    Thank you for your attention,

     Best regards,

    Alessio

  • Hi  Alessio,

I apologize for your continued difficulties in ordering a board.  There may be some issue between AvnetExpress in the Americas and Europe.  I'm glad that we could sort this one out for you; we are working continuing to work to make the board available for purchase in all regions.

Currently, it is not possible to purchase the board directly from TI, but we hope that it will be starting this Fall 2012, as National's integration into TI become more complete.

    Kind regards,
    Marjorie

  • Dear Marjorie,

      the board arrived today.

We don't know how to thank you and all TI staff for your very appreciated effort.

    Thank you very very much.

    Alessio

  • Hello Marjorie,

I was wondering if we could get an update on availability for this eval. board. We are in a similar situation where no one is reporting any stock (and the listed price differs from TIs pricing).

You seem to have a good handle on this. Do you have a suggested vendor that you know has stock and, perhaps, the part number if it has changed from what is listed on TI's site (ADC12D1800RB/NOPB)?

    Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Jay

  • Hi Jay,

Sorry for your difficulties in ordering a board; it's been a big frustration for us as well.

You can order a board from Avnet Express, especially since you are ordering from the States; see the link below.  We are also working with our other distributors to make the board available.

    http://avnetexpress.avnet.com/store/em/EMController?langId=-1&storeId=500201&catalogId=500201&term=adc12d1800rb&searchType=&advAction=&N=0&Ne=100000&action=products

Although their website shows zero stock, we do have boards in box stock here at TI.  If you place an order, Avnet will get a board from us and send it to you, so don't be alarmed about the '8 week lead time' which the web site shows.

Let me know if you are not able to get a board in hand fairly quickly.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Hello Marjorie,

    You are fabulous.

Thank you very much for the info, I will give them a try.

    Best regards,

    Jay.

  • Hi all,

If you are trying to order a GSPS ADC Reference Board for evaluation, there is some good news!  The National Semiconductor products have now been fully integrated into Texas Instrument's ordering systems and it is possible to order a GSPS ADC Reference Board from the TI eStore.  For example, see the ADC12D1800RFB:

    https://estore.ti.com/ADC12D1800RFRBNOPB-12-Bit-Dual-18-GSPS-or-Single-36-GSPS-AD-Converter-Reference-Board-P3260.aspx

Note that this is also the cheapest place to get one.

    Happy evaluation!

    Marjorie
