ADS1248 and strain gauge transient problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F2274, ADS1248

Hi again,

I am experiencing a problem that I would like to get some ideas as to why it might be happening. The problem is related to the ADS1248 and a 1k Ohm full bridge strain gauge. The ADS is working great except for when we calibrate the system. Basically we calibrate with a 45lb weight and with the system(MSP430F2274) connected to the PC through the FET and CCS, I write the output from the ADS1248 to FLASH and export it to excel. This all works fine. The issue of concern is when connected to the system in debug mode and applying the 45lb weight to the sensor the FET loses communication. I then have to reconnect to the system and then I am able to get the data from the ADS.

What I am wondering is if there is a voltage transient that is potentially violating spec on the ADS1248 input channels and causing the transient to surge through the system causing a reset, and thus a need to reconnect to the debugger. Could this be possible? Should a violation of specification of the ADS1248 cause such a problem? How would I suppress the signal if this is the case?

I look forward to hearing some ideas.

Thank you,

Cody
