ADS1243 burnout current source

What is the latency from writing to SETUP register (bit3)  to enable or disable the burnout current sources and the connection/disconnection of the sources to the ADC +/- inputs?

Is the PGA gain effected when the burnout currents sources (bit 3 of SETUP register) are enabled or disable if the same GAIN value is not changed (bit 2-0 are not changed)?

  • Lech,

The actual latency of the command will be in nano seconds for the register to latch from the last falling edge of SCLK of the register write command.  As far as the analog latency for startup is concerned, I'm not able to find any characterization data.  It should not take long for the circuit to bias up.  What may be of larger concern is settling time which will be determined by the current path and any associated capacitance.  If the sensor is high impedance, you will also see some offset associated with the measurement results.

The gain will remain constant whether the burn out sources are on or off.  As I mentioned earlier, offset could be an issue as this error will be gained up as well as the sensor signal.

    Best regards,
